What is there to Forgive?
By Michael Berkes, PhD, MBA, Retired Professor of psychology
Almost from birth, most of us are bombarded with criticism about our cans, character, worth, errors, weaknesses, which is not what we should have done, what we should do and not do, or did, but could have done better. The list of such "constructive" criticism of our elderly is endless.
And this is only the ' better ' half of the hammering we from birth on. Unfortunately, there are adults, itself wounded souls, that anger and cruelty to their put-downs of children, so deep that they add a lifetime can take to cure wounds cause. Such parents, teachers and peers, to nurture and stimulate, loving support rather than the opposite. Even more tragic are the crimes of some of this care-takers who hurt the children both physically and emotionally, serious crimes against their trusting costs, crimes which usually go unreported and, most importantly, with impunity. We will not touch on the horrors of sexual abuse of innocents by criminal psychotics.
We keep these toxic releases and shocked experiences as we receive them, uncontrolled, because we are too young to understand, let alone to reject and obliterate them. With repetition, as we ripen, the "truths" we previously stored added to that we later received. All these "truths" (read: "lies") are stored in a dark corner of our subconscious, where they fester, usually unknown to us, robbing us of our ability to give and receive love and lead a happy and productive life.
It Is surprising that, as we learn to socialize in our various groups in the time, dealing with people like us, who all carry similar "ballasts" of guilt, we often treat others as we were treated, by his critical, judgmental and hurtful ourselves? We put each other down, we ridicule, laughter or reduce each other's worth, under the guise of only "crazy" and, too often, we do even more damage to each other. Our colleagues, employers, "elders and betters ', products of own less than happy childhoods, their insults to injuries we suffer through the years, making the taxation of debt is still add more.
All this is done "for your own good", as a psychiatrist Alice Miller book title reads, a very large and treacherous lie that, unfortunately, most of us also believe.
When was the last time you had a really good night's sleep? You know what your minimum need for sleep? Did you know that it varies from 4 to 10 or more hours, for an average of 7 to 8? Did you know that lost sleep ' irreparable ' by catnaps, but only by different night's sleep in a row? Do you know how harmful to your health and your safety sleep deprivation is dangerous? Behind the wheel falling asleep is the second cause of fatal accidents in the United States.
Did you know that an estimated 40-60% of Americans suffer from undiagnosed "moderate to severe depression? ' Why should we, one of the world's best best fed, housed, most secure, most free Nations have cause to be depressed? Scientific studies show that the main reason is the burden of the debt that we all wear from our earliest youth.
When was the last time that you have a truly relaxing holiday where you could let go of your work and unfinished tasks and enjoy life to the fullest?
Why we take our homework related problems and why we are so often obsess about our personal problems at work? Again, it's the same culprit: unresolved pain, rejections and humiliations we not covered in our intestines gnawing.
There are people in your life, either past or present, about whom you would prefer not to think, or worse, that cannot run through your mind without the cause of your anger? There are disturbing thoughts that keep recurring that you can't figure out? Those memories, for you have done, not just those done for you, you, either in your dreams, or disturbing abuses are also alerted when? And before you say ' no ', do not forget that we rarely even know, let alone remember, whatever goes on in our minds while we sleep.
There are occasions when, for no good reason, you seem to lose your ' cool ' and flail from on someone you care for, hurting them against your will? Most, if not all of these events are caused by pain and un-resolved conflicts from the past. They can be resolved, if there is a will to do it, by forgiving yourself and others through the method described in Dr. Dincalci the book. It is not a "simple" method, but it's one that is conducive to those who believe in the work with a commitment to learn and profit by it can get. For this is virtually inevitable success
