Responding to the need for spatial thinker

On 15 March 2003 the Economist published an article with the provocative title "The revenge of geography." The thesis is that "... it was naive to imagine that the global reach of the Internet geography would make it irrelevant." "Wired and wireless technologies closer than ever before have bound the virtual and physical world". The virtual world of overlays and intersects with the real world in which we live. For example, Internet Protocol addresses (IF) have a physical expression in the geographical location of the computer and its users. The location of mobile devices can be determined by GPS. The Committee would argue that the global reach of the Internet will make the understanding of space even more important. Access and the intelligent use of the virtual world will think a premium on spatial place in everyday life, at work and in science. Extent to which K-12 to the needs of production of students who are familiar with at least are responding the American education system, if you think not expert, spatial?

This chapter reviews the extent, the education system meets social needs for spatial thinker. This is an indication that a prerequisite for the development of scientific research is mathematical knowledge. Perhaps if spatial thinking for science education is important, it is a feeling, that students have learned you as part of Mathematics before they learn it in science should apply. Spatial thinking is therefore only an implicit but nevertheless essential part of the process science, as articulated in the scientific standards do. It is central to science, but it is not explicitly as part of the responsibility of science represented teachers in the promotion of scientific competence in K-12 students.
